Manama, Aug. 28 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the meeting of the National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
The minister lauded the effective cooperation between the concerned government agencies in Bahrain, represented by the National Committee and representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He stressed the need to invest in the national, regional, and international coordination networks that have been achieved to serve national interests.
Dr. Al Zayani underscored the importance of benefiting from Bahrain’s membership in international organisations related to the Committee’s files, through effective participation in raising efficiency, and developing human expertise and bilateral and multilateral cooperation programmes with strategic partners from other countries.
The meeting reviewed the technical programs endorsed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the Qatari cooperation programme. It also discussed national strategies for monitoring and controlling biological and chemical materials, along with the government systems in place to improve information exchange, aiming to ensure robust cooperation and effective measures against potential threats to public safety and security.
The meeting also reviewed government awareness campaigns on handling chemical and radioactive materials and issued directives to intensify efforts on raising awareness on this matter.
