Manama: The Indian School Bahrain(ISB) celebrated Punjabi Divas with the zeal and energy of Punjab, its rich culture and literature on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the school’s Jashanmal auditorium. The programme was organised by the Department of Punjabi in vibrant colours. Chief Guest Businessperson Harinder Bir Singh Lamba and Guest of Honour Tilak Dua (Managing Director, ABIC Group of Companies) inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. School Executive Committee member Mohammad Khursheed Alam, Principal VR Palaniswamy, Vice-Principals, Head Teachers and Heads of Departments attended. The programme started with the national anthems of Bahrain and India followed by the school prayer. The Holy Qur’an was recited by Shadab Qamar of IX T. The recitation from Guru Granth Sahib was performed by Mannat Kaur of IV U and Shabad prayer was performed by students Raman Kumar, Pankaj Kumar, Gurneet Singh, Gurveer Singh,Jagjot Singh, Bhupinder Kaur, Gurleen Kaur and Amrit Kaur. Earlier Punjabi Teacher Rajvinder Kaur welcomed the gathering. As part of the celebrations, following competitions were conducted: Picture identification and coloring for classes IV and V, story-telling for class VI, poem recitation for class VII, essay writing for class VIII and Punjabi folk song for classes VI to X. Apart from these competitions there were a variety programmes such as Punjabi Giddha dance,Bhangra dance,folk song and poem recitation. Giddha and Bhangra were the main attractions of the programme.
In his speech the chief guest Harinder Bir Singh Lamba highlighted the contribution of the state of Punjab in different fields of the country. He appreciated the efforts put in by the students and the teachers to make the Punjabi Day celebrations a grand success. Guest of Honour Tilak Dua congratulated the students, staff and management for the exemplary celebrations. EC member Mohammad Khursheed Alam in his speech said Punjabi language is a very important and vibrant language in the world today. Principal VR Palaniswamy presented mementos to the guests. HoD Baboo Khan announced the names of prize winners in different competitions. Trophies and certificates were awarded to the winners. School orchestra team members Raman Kumar, Jolina Ann Dias and Pankaj Kumar performed songs. Vote of thanks was presented by Raman Kumar of grade X. Punjabi Divas organising committee members Srilata Nair, Mala Singh, Shabreen Sulthana, Kahkashan Khan, Mahanaz Khan, Sheema Attukandathil, Sayali Amod Kelkar, Girija M K,Jooli Vivek, Ganga Kumari, Sreekala Suresh and Suniti Upendra were present during the programme.
