Manama:The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated the 7th International Yoga Day with children demonstrating Yoga online. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic guidelines, students stayed indoors and practised various Yoga postures which are helpful in healing the body and mind. The participants were introduced to Yogasanas, Pranayama, and Meditation.The theme of the International Yoga Day event this year is ‘Yoga for wellness’, a motto aligned to the current preoccupations.
On International Yoga Day on Monday, ISB Hon. Chairman Prince S Natarajan said yoga has become a source of inner strength for people and a medium to transform negativity to creativity amid the coronavirus pandemic. Emphasizing the importance of yoga, Prince S Natarajan said, ” The United Nations, recognizing the importance of the Indian practice in these trying times, has decided to celebrate the day this year by focusing on ‘Yoga for well-being’ . Its aim is to raise awareness about how yoga can promote the holistic health of every individual.”
” Yoga, the ancient Indian discipline, which is aimed at integrating all aspects of the body with the mind and soul to achieve ultimate happiness and balanced life, is helping people remain healthy during these trying times “, said ISB Hon. Secretary Saji Antony.
“The message of Yoga in promoting both the physical and mental well-being of humanity has never been more relevant. It has been tried and tested that practicing Yoga helps in the development of stronger physical and mental well-being. The simple Yoga Kriyas help in regaining the sense of control and enable mind and body to provide tools for better management of anxiety due to situations beyond control ” said Principal VR Palaniswamy.
“Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derived from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness” ISB Physical Education Teacher R Chinnasamy said while demonstrating various Yoga postures. HoD Saikat Sarkar and Physical Education teachers were also present.
