Manama:Fostering leadership qualities and public speaking skills, The Indian School Bahrain hosted the largest ever MUN, The Indian School Bahrain Model United Nations 2023 [ISBMUN 23] on the 19th and 20th of May. The two-day conference was inaugurated by Hon. Chairman Prince S Natarajan in the presence of EC Members Binu Mannil Varughese, Rajesh Nambiar, Principal VR Palaniswamy, Riffa Campus Principal Pamela Xavier and Vice-Principals.  Around 370 delegates from 11 schools from grades 6 to 12 attended the 8th ISBMUN conference. The conference was completely student-run in which students as delegates of nations debated pertinent world issues. The organization of the conference was spearheaded by an organizing team consisting entirely of students headed by Student Director of the Organizing Committee, Aryan Arora. The programme started with the national anthems of Bahrain  and  India. Secretary-General Joanna Jess Binu addressed the gathering and  officially declared the ISBMUN conference open.
In his felicitation address, Prince S Natarajan said that MUN would help students to develop public speaking, writing and research skills. In addition, they often provide the first entry point into international affairs and introduce students to the wide range of peace and security, human rights, development and rule of law issues that are on the UN, said Prince Natarajan.
Students proceeded to their councils to discuss and debate the issues of their respective councils. The delegates were divided into various councils and each council’s debate was led by chairs who directed the proceedings in true UN diplomatic style. At the closing ceremony, various awards were distributed to the delegates who excelled in each council.
“Preparing and participating in a MUN helps students develop leadership skills, research, writing, public speaking, and problem-solving skills. Moreover, coming up with solutions that are acceptable to a majority of the representatives also inculcates skills of negotiation, conflict resolution, and cooperation”, said Secretary-General Joanna Jess Binu.

The entire ISBMUN conference was organized by students under the guidance of ISBMUN Directors Chhaya Joshi, Sreesadan OP, Prajisha Anand, Dilna Shajeeb, Danny Thomas,  Elizabeth Saldanha and Asha Latha.  The administration team was led by Secretary-General Joanna Jess Binu, Student Director of the Organising Committee, Aryan Arora and Student Director of Research & Training, Hariram Chembra.
