Manama:The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated Urdu Day ( Yaum-E-Urdu) 2022 in vibrant colours on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the ISB Jashanmal Auditorium in Isa Town Campus. Chief Guest Mohammed Mansoor (Chairman Advisory Board Bahrain Cricket Federation) and guest of honour Dr. Syed Raza (Consultant Cardiologist & HoD Department of Medicine Awali Hospital) inaugurated the programme which was organised by the Urdu Department. ISB EC members Mohammad Khursheed Alam, Mohammad Nayaz Ullah, Principal VR Palaniswamy, Staff Representative Johnson K Devassy, Vice-Principals, Head Teachers,teachers and students attended.
In his speech Chief Guest Mohammed Mansoor highlighted the contribution of Urdu scholars stating that Urdu is ‘the language of love and unity.’ He also highlighted the importance of Urdu and requested the parents to encourage their kids to learn and speak the language. Mr. Mansoor congratulated the Indian School Urdu Department and the management for arranging Urdu Day in a grand manner. Guest of Honour Dr. Raza in his speech congratulated the prize winners and appreciated the school and students. Dr. Raza congratulated the Urdu Department and appreciated the students and teachers for arranging the colourful programme.
Earlier the programme started with the school prayer followed by the national anthem of Bahrain and India. HoD Baboo Khan welcomed the gathering. The Urdu Day was dedicated to the famous Urdu poet Allama Iqbal and the poet’s introduction was done by Urdu teacher Mahanaz Khan. This was the grand finale of the celebrations which had many competitions for the students of classes VI to X. Drawing and colouring competition for class 4 and 5, poem recitation for class 6, story telling for class 7 and 8, speech and quiz for class 9 and10 were conducted. Apart from the competitions there were programmes such as patriotic song, national song and a humorous skit Corona ki Dushwariyan which was the main attraction of the programme.
EC member Mohammad Khursheed Alam introduced the guests and wished the students and teachers on the occasion of the Urdu Day. He also thanked Hon.Chairman Prince S Natarajan and Principal VR Palaniswamy for their support in promoting the language. HoD Baboo Khan announced the results and winners were awarded trophies and certificates. EC member Mohammad Nayaz Ullah gave vote of thanks. Urdu day organizing committee members Srilatha Nair, Mala Singh, Kahkashan Khan, Shabreen, Waheeda, Girija, Neeta and Mahanaz Khan were present during the programme.
