Student leaders discuss global issues at ISBMUN  conference

Manama: Fostering leadership qualities and public speaking skills,The Indian School Bahrain Model United Nations (ISBMUN2022) was held at the school’s Isa Town campus on Friday after two years of pandemic. The two-day conference was inaugurated by Hon. Chairman Prince S Natarajan in the presence of EC Member  Rajesh Nambiar, Principal VR Palaniswamy, Staff Representative Johnson K Devassy and Vice-Principals.  Around 300 students from 8  schools from grades 7 to 12  attended the conference.The conference was completely student-run in which delegates of nations debated pertinent world issues. The organization of the conference was spearheaded by a team consisting entirely of students. The programme started with the national anthem of Bahrain and India. Principal VR Palaniswamy welcomed the gathering. Secretary General Roshel Santhosh Paul and Deputy Secretary General Devika Suresh addressed the gathering and declared the ISBMUN conference open.
In his felicitation address, Prince S Natarajan said the conference would help enrich the participants’ debating skills, in addition to critical thinking and leadership abilities. “In this era of globalization, learning about the world is more important than ever”, Prince S Natarajan said.
Students proceeded to their councils to discuss the issues of their respective councils. The delegates were divided into various councils and each council’s debate was led by chairs who directed the proceedings in true UN diplomatic style. At the  closing ceremony, various awards were distributed to the delegates who excelled in each council.
“The ISBMUN is an opportunity for students to explore their oratory and debating skills; it teaches them how to think critically and improves their confidence”, said Secretary General Roshel Santhosh Paul.
“The conference gives an opportunity to share common experiences with teammates and friends, and students learn about the world as they prepare for Model UN conferences,” said Deputy Secretary General Devika Suresh.
The entire ISBMUN conference was organized by students with help from ISBMUN directors Chhaya Joshi, Sreesadan O.P, Prajisha Anand, Dilna Shajeeb, Danny Thomas and  Asha Latha.  The organising team consisted of  Roshel Santhosh Paul(Secretary General), Devika Suresh(Deputy Secretary General), Anugraha Susan Sam(Student Director of OC), Ritika Anoop( Student director of R&T), Alfia Ashraf( Head of Logistics),  Saniya Suzzane John(Head of Finance), Joshua George Shaji( Head of Media) Aryan Arora(Head of Security), Jannath Kamarudheen(Head of PR), Zainab Arshad Raza(Head of Hospitality), Juiee Kelkar( Undersecretary of Research), Helen Elsa George(Undersecretary of Training), Hariram Chembra(Undersecretary of Procedures), Adila Isha(Head of Crisis)  and Joanna Jess Binu(Secretariat Member.)
